Dariyan Dubik
Dariyan Dubik has completed his BMus, under Mel Braun, at the University of Manitoba. In 2024, he was a chorister in Manitoba Opera’s production of Carmen and was the Baritone soloist and bass section lead for Covenant Christian Reformed Church’s production of Handel’s Messiah, and portrayed Don Giovanni in UM Opera Theatre. In 2023, he portrayed Edmund in the opera Mansfield Park with Nuova Vocal Arts. In 2022, he was a chorister in Handel’s Solomon and Brahm’s Requiem with the UM Singers. In 2022, he won the Zita Bernstein Lieder Competition held by the UM Desautels Faculty of Music.
Nicholas Kluftinger
Nicholas is a young tenor hailing from Delta, British Columbia. He is currently enrolled in the Glenn Gould School's Bachelor of Music (Honours) Program under the instruction of Adrianne Pieczonka and Jennifer Tung. He recently played the roles of the First Commissioner and Thierry in the GGS production of Poulenc's Dialogues des Carmélites. Nicholas is delighted to join the UASP Summer Institute for 2024, and he hopes to expand on his artistry through the Ukrainian repertory.
Olesia Shewchuk
Olesia Shewchuk is a multi-disciplinary artist- actor, singer, filmmaker, dancer, conductor based in Vancouver. She sings as a vocal soloist, including with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, the New Westminster Symphony Orchestra, the National Ballet of Ukraine, City Opera Vancouver. She has performed in 24 stage shows, including leads in Camelot, Once, and The Merry Widow - “Shewchuk has the confidence to use a fine lyric soprano to mold all the features of her role. Her “Vilja” stopped the show.” [Opera Canada]. She danced with the Rusalka Dance Ensemble, released a recording “Spring Nights” of 14 Ukrainian folk songs with her sister and conducts and arranges music for the Barvinok Ukrainian Folk Choir.

Polina Kornyushenko
Soprano Polina Kornyushenko is a bachelor’s student, studying with Dina Kuznetsova at the Cleveland Institute of Music, as well as purusing a dual degree at Case Western Reserve University. She has performed with the Cleveland Opera Theater, CIM Opera Theater, and others. Kornyushenko participated in the Interlochen Summer Intensive and CIM Young Artist Program. She competed in Europe and the United States, including at Carnegie Hall. Kornyushenko received first place in the American Protege Competition, NATS Ohio, Grand Prize Virtuoso, and many others.
Being born in Ukraine, Kornyushenko has a deep connection to the culture and music. She actively participates in the Ukrainian community in Cleveland and performs at festivals and fundraisers.
Baille Melnyk
Baille Melnyk is a Canadian-Ukrainian soprano originally from the small farming community of Grassland, Alberta. She is currently completing her Bachelor of Music degree at the University of Manitoba where she studies under Monica Huisman. Throughout her studies, she has performed roles with the University of Manitoba Opera Theatre ensemble and was a 2018 participant in Opera NUOVA’s Ten Day Program.
Baille has been training classically since the age of 7. Being born into a Ukrainian family of musicians, her passion for her culture and for music had been ignited at a very young age, leading her to pursue her studies in music education and Ukrainian language. She is currently an active chorister at the Holy Trinity Ukrainian Orthodox Metropolitan Cathedral in Winnipeg and runs a private voice studio out of her home. She is excited to continue expanding her knowledge and strengthening her passion for Ukrainian art song.
Mayanna Carter
Mayanna Carter is a 24-year-old student currently studying vocal performance at The King’s University in Edmonton Alberta. Her passion for the performing arts began at a very young age when she joined a local theatre community in her childhood hometown, Geraldine, New Zealand. After moving to Alberta in 2012, she began a serious course of study in music and has had many wonderful experiences performing in theatre productions, ensembles, and as a voice and flute soloist throughout Alberta and British Columbia. This is her first time travelling to Ontario.
Isabel Stanyer
During her BMus at the University of Victoria, studying with Professor Bruce Vogt, Isabel had opportunities to perform in masterclasses with pianists such as Stephane Lemelin and Mark Anderson. Some of her most memorable experiences during this time included performing the complete book of Liszt’s Années de pèlerinage, Première année: Suisse in March 2023, and being awarded the University of Victoria’s Musical Arts Scholarship in April 2022.
In September 2023, her musical journey continued as she was accepted into the MMus program in performance at the University of Ottawa to study under Professor David Jalbert, in addition to being offered the Special Merit Scholarship. Away from the piano, Isabel can be found on the soccer field, bouldering, and always keen to pursue collaboration with other passionate musicians.
Anna Tanczak
Anna Tanczak is a twenty-three year old Ukrainian-Canadian soprano who has been devoted to singing since the age of five. Born in Toronto, she grew up surrounded by Ukrainian culture and has been deeply involved in the Ukrainian community of the Greater Toronto Area. She has been a part of various ensembles and church choruses in the community, as well as performed in countless events including competitions, festivals, commemorations, and celebrations. Anna completed her Bachelor of Music in Classical Voice Performance at the University of Toronto where she has furthered her knowledge and proficiency in a multitude of languages and genres. Anna is looking forward to an enriching experience as part of the UASP Summer Institute.
Jordan Welbourne
Jordan Welbourne is a multi-instrumentalist performer, songwriter, and composer from Saskatoon, SK. As a contemporary vocalist-guitarist, Jordan has toured professionally across Canada and the United States, co-written and performed on 7 Canadian Top-40 rock hits, received 8 Saskatchewan Music Award nominations, and performed at esteemed events such as the Grey Cup Festival, Calgary Stampede, the Brier, and Country Thunder. As a classical baritone, Jordan was a chorister in the Saskatoon Opera’s productions of Don Pasquale and The Magic Flute. He is a chorister and regularly featured soloist in the Lastiwka Ukrainian Choir and Orchestra, with which he has also toured Canada and Ukraine. In June 2024, Jordan sang with the Greystone Singers at Carnegie Hall in a performance of Elaine Hagenberg’s Illuminare. Jordan will graduate with a Bachelor of Music (Honours) this fall, and continues to study classical singing and performance with Dr. Garry Gable, and vocal coach Kathleen Lohrenz-Gable.
